Additional Health Test Form – El Camino
We recommend that ALL patients have an in-depth health check at every eye exam. The Optomap Ultra-wide Field Retinal Imaging technology or traditional dilation both allows us to view in more detail the inside of your eyes, so the doctor may detect early signs of diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, retinal holes, retinal detachments, diabetic retinopathy, hypertension, melanoma and many other serious vision and health concerns.
Dr. Dao recommends Optomap Imaging because:
- It allows for enlargement of image to see more detailed views of the retina
- It is fast, easy, and comfortable (takes a few minutes start to finish, much shorter office visit than dilation exam)
- There is no blurring or light sensitivity after exam (no dilation drops used)
- There is a permanent digital record
- It allows for future side by side comparisons (We can compare this year’s image to next year’s image)
- It can be reviewed by other doctors, if necessary
A dilated exam can be performed at your exam, but very common side effects of dilation drops are blurry vision and light sensitivity for 4-6 hours. Dilation is a thorough way to look at the retina but there is no permanent record without photo documentation. Optomap is an excellent alternative when dilation is not convenient (especially at this time to help limit the spread of COVID-19)
Please note, most insurance plans will not cover Optomap. Please check one of the following:
